Jay Rosen

Born in 1961 in Philadelphia, his family moved to Long Island, New York in 1964. He began music lessons at the age of eight on guitar and then piano. After hearing Tony Williams, with Sonny Rollins at Carnegie Hall in 1971, Jay switched exclusively to drums.

 

He studied with Barry Altschul, Kenwood Dennard, Marvin "Smitty" Smith and Joe Morello, among others. He has been an active member of the New York jazz scene since 1990. He has been involved in the creative improvisational and new music scenes in New York and beyond.

 

Jay Rosen has gained considerable reputation as a first-rate drummer, lending his talents to various musical projects. He has performed all over Europe, Canada and the United States and/or recorded with many artists.

 

Jay has a complete Luka Drums kit in sugar maple including an 18X14 bass tom, 2 floor toms of 16X14 and 14X14. 2 toms of 12X8 and 10X8 and a 14X6 snare. You can hear it on the album Abstraction in lime caverns.
